was a Sergeant at 1 SSB, and later
seconded to Parachute Battalion at
Tempe.

Service under CMDR HEINZ and
PRINSLOO. SGT Bauer I believe
is still there. Visited the museum
a few years ago - brought back
good and sad memories, but I
love the unit still today. Made men
of us which truly lacks in the
youth of today. Spent almost a
year at the border.

from Jan 1968 till Jun 1968. Attained
rank of lance corporal. Went to
1SSB as instructor then volunteered
to go to Kaprivi for 3 months to
complete my army stint. 13 months
in total.

Hi
I worked at OMC Engineering
building the Olifant tanks. A few of
us were transferred to Malopo
Regiment as Tiffy's. in 1987/8 we
volunteered and went with the
tanks to Cuito Cuanavale. it
seems like another lifetime away.
34 Years ago.
Some of the other guys were -
G.Georgiou, J.Joubert,
R.Greyvenstein, C.Miller,
P.Bayman, - there may be others
but can't remember.

Started my military service in
Potch SAMS for 2 weeks then off
to 2SSB Zeerust for Basic
Training.I was in F- Squad with
Staff Sergent DuToit and Major
Helm as our leaders.
After phase 2 basics i was
selected for JL's and went to
School of Armour in 1988.
I returned to 2SSB in 1989 as Lt
and rejoined F Squad. Awesome
memories with great soldiers.

My Dad served in the 6th S A Armoured Division in Egypt and Italy, fighting against the heroes of the mob who conscripted me in 1964 (1SSB, A Sqn 2 Armoured Car, PAG). Do any of your members remember that splendid day on the De Brug range in the mid to late 60s when we staged a rather impressive mutiny during a 3 week camp which prompted the intervention of armed military police? If so then please get in touch.

Hy het van 1979-1980 diensplig

Windhoek. Hy onthou nie veel

hul gesigte. Een outjie se
bynaam was "Sally" oor hy daar

was my crew leader.

John Swiegelaar, fantasties om jou kommentaar te sien. Ons altwee was destyds in A-Eskadron by 2 SDB. Ek was een vd radio-operateurs op Kaptein Von Mollendorf se Ratel. Die ander radio-operateur was Grobler. Ons het ook in opskamer gewerk, spesifiek by 10 Pantser in Oshakati onder Majoor Rodgers. Bring baie herinneringe terug!

- Jan. 1980 Convoy to Messina (show of force after Bobs take-over in Zim)
- Border duty Apr.-Aug. 1980 at Katima. Eland armoured car with Leon Blume and Colin Fibiger.
Remember corporal Peel, Lieutenant "old blue eyes" (forgot his name) and Lieutenant Odendaal (a lawyer).
Where are they today? We are growing old. We live in a strange world today.

looking at the images it bring back a lot of emotions and longing. I attended School of Armour in 1971 and completed my year at Rooikop, Walvisbaai. After that I served in Regiment Windhoek (with quite a number of border duties) until I left in 1984. The website is brilliant! Thank you.

Left 1LHR 1982 as a Lieutenant.
Trained in 1972 "A" squadron 1SSB
Participated in the later stages of
Ops Savannah and was based at
Ruacana Airfield for Ops Protea.
Had many Camps at De Brug and
Lohatla. Good ols days!
